I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the March meeting, but thank you for humoring me with the April selection. You can read my thoughts on Animal, Vegetable, Miracle here (and check out the other things I've been reading, too). Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
I'll see you in a few weeks!

Thanks for posting, Page Turner. Good comments. I appreciate your taking the time. And we look forward to seeing you next week!
A couple thoughts to add: One, your rehashing of how the family moved from Arizona to Virginia made me think of the family in The Glass Castle. They made a similar trek, to West Virginia from AZ or NM (somewhere out west), to a much different effect. Boy, the contrast couldn't be greater, could it?
As you mentioned, Barbara Kingsolver seems to advocate the "have-it-all" brand of feminism. But how much of her success at this life is due to her being a writer/member of academia? Would the average working woman be able to also farm land and tend animals? By the same token, would the average work-at-home mom be able to afford the organic vegetables and free-range meat from the farmer's market? Seems to me she had the best of both worlds. I would have liked to have seen a breakdown of how she spent the average day. How much time writing vs. weeding? That information would have been helpful. Its absence made me think she might be deliberately hiding something.
